Watch: First Trailer for the Long-Awaited ‘Croods 2’ Sequel

They’re baa-aack!

The Croods meet The Bettermans in this long-awaited sequel.

Finally! DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures have premiered The Croods 2 trailer online — and not just a teaser, but rather a good, long look — offering a peek into the sequel that’s been discussed since, well, The Croods was released back in 2013. To give you an idea of how long it’s been, that’s when President Obama was inaugurated for his second term and Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines was topping the charts.

The Croods: A New Age features the original cast, including Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds. In this adventure, however, the titular prehistoric family is challenged by a new family named The Bettermans whom they meet while in search of a new home. As their name suggests, The Bettermans are frustratingly better than The Croods in every way – they have better shelter, better inventions and even better food. Tensions further escalate when the cave family and the “modern” family start living together. Check it out:

Fun fact: When DreamWorks Animation first announced a Croods sequel in 2013, the story focused on motherhood and the “first chapter of society.” Clearly, that version of the movie never came to fruition, and then the film got canceled altogether in 2016 when DreamWorks Animation moved to Universal Pictures. But alas! The Croods 2 was eventually revived, and after a few years of development and production we finally have The Croods: A New Age. (And now I’m eager to see that version focusing on motherhood! The Croods 3, perhaps?)

The Croods: A New Age is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on November 25th. (Time will tell if it’s also released on a premium streaming service shortly thereafter.)
