Ben Affleck on Completing Treatment for Alcohol Addiction: ‘I’m Lucky to Have the Love of My Family’

In what couldn’t have been an easy post to write, Ben Affleck just announced on Facebook that he has completed treatment for alcohol addiction:

I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront. I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I’m lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.

Ben and wife Jennifer Garner announced their separation nearly two years ago; however, they have remained close, living together much of the time and co-parenting their kids. The pair has even been spotted taking family vacations together, most recently celebrating the holidays in Montana.

Although “sources” tell People that the two aren’t back together, they’ve decided to call off the divorce for now and keep working on their marriage after surviving a recent rough patch that nearly led to a divorce filing.

Bravo to Ben for getting help and admitting he needed it, which we all do from time to time. Going public took courage–wishing him, and his family, all the best.
